Cllr. Sian Newnes
Newly elected to the parish council in May 2019.
I have lived in Kibworth Harcourt since March 2013, and in Leicestershire since 2010, having relocated with my two daughters from South Wales. I currently live on Dairy Way with my husband, two teenage daughters and my dog!
My knowledge/experience/skills come from a range of sources.
I have a BA in Social Sciences (Joint Honours in History & Social Policy), also a Post Graduate diploma in Library & Information Management. Most recently I have successfully completed a course in Awareness of Mental Health Problems. I have worked in education (both university and secondary level) and I also worked for a trade union. I volunteered for the Citizen's Advice Bureau for 4 years. Always willing to volunteer for most things, I have been lucky enough to travel overseas and within the UK working on several environmental conservation projects.
Given the information above it should be no surprise that my passions lie with environmental issues, raising awareness of health and wellbeing issues within our community and making sure that as a councillor I speak for the community I live in. I believe given my life experiences I can bring a fresh perspective to the council. I hope I can put forward the views of the younger generation, who sometimes feel powerless and voiceless. My aim is to encourage and support engagement in all matters local and a sense of collective responsibility for the village I'm proud to call home.
